Yes, it’s Sunday here at the loft, and that rain the weatherman keeps promising still hasn’t come. That’s a shame, because it leads to an old, fat man in shorts dragging a hose around the yard trying to keep the azaleas he planted from dying of thirst! Not a pretty picture… I’m just saying…
While there is, indeed, much to bitch about in the world today, there are some bright spots – we just have to look for them a bit harder. After all, our slanted and prevaricating media doesn’t usually stray too far from that “if it bleeds, it leads” mentality. So, the good stuff requires a bit of searching to be found. But, I have seen a few things that made me smile – other than the banner above! (And I’m not sure what beer they drink in Indianapolis, but a gallon of beer in east Texas still costs more than a gallon of unleaded… so I’m suspect, but thought the photo was worthy of sharing!)
Here’s some of today’s headlines that show me a bit of optimism in an otherwise (as my brother, Sambus, put it) Pac-Man kind of world…
Saudi Arabia releases popular blogger – This story has been the subject of many petitions on the blogs of some of my friends, especially those with ties to the KSA, either geographical or religious. Now that Fouad has been released, I’m hoping they’ll devote those efforts into another worthy endeavor… like cheaper beer for the working class!
Professional Panhandler: Girl Pretends to be Homeless to Pocket Cash – This is exactly why I find myself driving past people holding cardboard signs at intersections. Well, most of the time, anyway. I think this girl should be forced to live in a shelter, with REAL homeless people, so that she doesn’t manipulate their plight for her own greed. How is this story a ‘bright side’ story? Well, she’s been outed, of course! I like the hell outta that!
Dutch Government Seeks To Ban Magic Mushrooms – Claiming that these ‘magic mushrooms’ create a hallucinogenic effect that can “induce life-threatening behaviour,” the Dutch government want to ban their sale. In related news, the Dutch government is still having a difficult time selling it’s surplus marijuana, following a failed prescription program. “I think it’s a shame that they can’t deliver a cannabis product a little bit cheaper than the coffee shops,” said David Watson, head of Hortapharm, an Amsterdam-based company licensed to research and develop cannabis for pharmaceutical use. (And I’m thinking, if they pulled their head just a bit further out of their arse, they may be able to feel the sunlight on their faces… LOL!)
Sweep of polygamists’ kids raises legal questions – That headline, in and of itself, has got to the be wildest understatement in the news this week! Raises legal questions, huh? Yeah, pretty much. Duh!
The bright side is, according to this article, an appellate court is scheduled to hold a hearing Tuesday on a motion filed by dozens of mothers to get their children back, and state District Judge Barbara Walther has said each mother will get an individual hearing by June 5. It’s likely that once individual hearings are held, some of the children may be headed back to their parents. That’s a bright side for everyone, especially for the kids. So, all you CPS gestapo types, just goose-step back to the barracks and wait for the next raid. Idiots.
And lastly, there’s this gem. Anti-war Cindy Sheehan files to take on Pelosi – I had to snicker when I saw this. In my brain, I’m thinking we should square the two of them off in something like a caged wrestling match, with the winner getting to be deported to the country of her choice. Originally, I was thinking a duel at twenty paces… but then I was afraid one of them might still be under the hallucinogenic effect of the mushrooms they undoubtedly consume in mass quantities, so… I mean, I wouldn’t want any of the lawyers near by to get shot accidentally.
On the other hand… I’m just sayin’… And for a good laugh, outside of the headlines, check out “Why the Chicken Crossed the Road”. Definitely a grin-generator!
“The habit of looking on the bright side of every event is worth more than a thousand pounds a year.” – Samuel Johnson
“Feeling good about government is like looking on the bright side of any catastrophe. When you quit looking on the bright side, the catastrophe is still there.” – Anonymous, but still true!

Thanks for all the neat links
..Loved your comment ” like cheaper beer for the working class’ Make mine a coors light or even better a Marguarita..whoo hoo!
Yeah, Pelosi and Cindy seem to have been on something for a while now..lol! Add Code Pink and what great women we have to look up to..Snort..snort..
It has been looking like it’s going to rain all day..weatherman said so..just has not happened yet. I for one want the sunshine but know (deep thoughts here) we gotta have a little rain now and then to appreciate the sunshine..
Enjoyed your posts as always.
A margarita sounds really good to me right about now! And if we can just arrange for Nancy and Cindy to get into that cage, well that would go with it just fine!
No rain here today, either… then again, and good friend once told me that there are only two kinds of people who think they can predict Texas weather – liars and fools! Perhaps I’m just learning that I have to have a little sunshine to appreciate the rain. Thanks for the comment!

Leave it our buddy Van-
Today has been nice, if only just to unplug for a time-
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Tlkq8kqGGPI
Now as to the panhandler, I think she ought to work a soup kitchen, starting at the dishes line…
Here’s to better Mondays……

Ah yes, there are some memories in those video clips for sure. And good ones, at that. You think the soup kitchen is good enough for her? After all, she’s used to coppin’ about $50 an hour from people who just want to help out a brother/sister in need. The more I think about it, the more I want to just take her to the whippin’ shed!

Greetings my friend-
This is my first day vertical in the last 5, and I’m still feeling more than a bit wobbly so I find myself agreeing with Charles C. Colton who said:
“True friendship is like sound health, the value is seldom appreciated until it is lost.”
While I may have lost the latter for a while I do not intend to take the former for granted!
All this discussion about crooked politicians and high gas prices and the country going to heck, etc, got me thinking about a quote I came across a while ago that I thought was very interesting, and sadly true
“American is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patrioitism, its morality, its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.” – Josef Stalin
Judging from this quote I think America is becoming just as sick as I have been, but I greatly fear there is no magic pill (“Tamiflu”) for the USA to take as I have been lucky enough to have…
What is your diagnosis ‘Doc’?!?
First, I’m glad to know that you’re feeling better! You need to take it slow, my friend… you’re the only you I’ve got!
As for the diagnosis, I fear that anything I have to offer at this point is too little, too late. Mr. Stalin may have been among the most murderous and brutal human beings to ever walk the planet, but he was certainly correct in his judgment of America. And we are rotting from the inside out, with no one to blame but ourselves. Sad, but true.
On a brighter note – and in trying to keep with the subject of the post – I offer this:
Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain are all on a plane flying to the next stumping ground. Obama takes a look out the window and says, “I could throw a $1,000 bill out the window and make someone down there very happy.”
Without missing a beat, Clinton says, “I could throw ten $100 bills out the window and make ten people very happy.”
Not to be outdone, McCain chimes in, “I could throw a hundred $10 bills out the window and make a hundred people very happy.”
The pilot sighs with disgust, turns to his co-pilot and says, “I could throw those three idiots out the window and make 300,000,000 people very happy!”
I know… It’s OK to smile…

Lofter, your comments on Obama Hillary and McCain are too good for me not to use in a future post..ROFL!
Also like the Stalin quote…
So do I have your permission to link it to you say sometime this week?
Anytime… I would be honored.

I don’t know I consider beer as such an important issue.
I have spend the whole weekend without any diet coke! Not that I’m addicted, I can stop whenever I want!!!
I knew I should have tried those mushrooms before they banned them!!!
WHAT!! You don’t consider beer as such an important issue?!! Wow… I’m flabbergasted! LOL! I’ll save all the diet coke for you, and you save all the beer for me – how’s that?
And, WHAT!! You never tried the magic mushrooms?!! Wow… I’m flabbergasted, again! I’d better be careful… my flabbergaster ain’t what it used to be, you know! LOL!
